[SOLVED] Upgrade from RX480 8GB to 1070ti

Hi all,

I just recently upgraded my system to an i9 9900k.

I am using my old RX480 8GB and it is still good enough for me. I game on 2560x1080 75hz monitor with FREESYNC. The RX 480 maxes all games at 75 hz aside from minor details having to be lowered.

I see an Asus 1070Ti Cerberus Advanced Edition for sale at Memory Express for 500 Canadian. The benchmarks show it approximately at the 1080 level of performance. The price / performance is a very good deal in my eyes.

I plan to keep the same monitor. I don't need 144Hz.

Do you think the upgrade would be worthwhile giving up FREESYNC and potentially not seeing any performance increase since the monitor is capped at 75Hz?

Thank you for the suggestion. I actually know nothing about the newer Gen Nvidia cards, can you please fill me in on the major differences? I see 6GB of ram instead of 8, which shouldn't be an issue with my monitor resolution. Anything else?

The new nvidia drivers released a couple of days ago enabled using freesync with their GPUs so I wouldn't worry about that too much. 2060 is probably the better option assuming the price is right.

I can get the (MSI GeForce RTX 2060 VENTUS 6GB OC) for 509.99 Canadian

Or the (Asus 1070Ti Cerberus Advanced Edition) for 499.00 Canadian (On sale from 709.00)

Which would you choose?

Definitely 1070ti is a great GPU but why don't you take a look at 2060's performance. From my point of you RTX 2060 will be the better choice than 1070ti.
