Upgrade from Sapphire Radeon 7970 HD 3gb OC??

Hi there

I got my Sapphire Radeon 7970 HD 3gb OC Edition card back in August 2013. Is it worth updating this yet?

I play BF4, Skyrim, Vermintide and will be getting Fallout 4 and SW:Battlefront 3 when they come out.

Looking at comparisons here it still seems the 7970 OC edition is a good card.
I have been thinking of getting a GTX 980.

ya , I still run a 7850 and it still does all I ask of it for what it is . and you got the power so how is it lacking ??

the gtx 970, or the r9 390, or the 980 ti are better choices


the vanilla 980 falls into an awkward position with those 3 cards around

the performance it has is not worth the price premium compared to a 970

Don't upgrade until you can't run those games at settings that you are happy with. The HD 79* models are still solid mid-range cards and, depending on the resolutions you are playing at, still plenty of card for many systems/needs.

the thing with a 970 is it not a true NVidia reference card just something vender put together to use up old salvaged parts and chips that did not bin for a 980

I agree with Grimwinder I mean if this 7850 aint hurting I can see how that 7970 is

but it is noce to upgrade to something new and got the money to burn for it

you may get the new ''better'' card and find it great or may see its not much better and wish you kept you cash ??

Thanks all....I just purchased a MSI GTX970 for £240, cheaper than they are selling 7970s!

My 7970 is way too noisy for my liking, and i need peace and quiet

all its about now is hook it up and run it . it will work as you expect or it will not - all you can do is what you feel is the best for you then live with it
