There is an actual notification that is basically nagging you to upgrade. It is to "reserve your place". Not something I will be doing.

I to would like to know, I have also received this notification. Do you truly think it could be a virus because I have just (2 weeks ago) installed windows and Norton and malewarebytes hasn't picked up anything

Never jump on a new OS version right away. Especially not one that has been slapped together as quickly as Windows 10 has been. There are *ALWAYS* tons of bugs in a new version of any OS. Let the masses play beta tester for you. Wait a few months for Microsoft to work out the worst of the kinks following the July 29th release. Then upgrade after things get nice and smooth, and you will enjoy it a lot more.

BTW, the notice you got was added to your system by Microsoft in the last Windows Update. It is a legit offer, but again, do not jump on Windows 10 right away when it is released next month.

This is the Reserve Windows 10 notification and it is included in patch 3035583.It is not a virus I can guarantee you.

Is there a way to get rid of the notification? also I have "reserved it" in the hopes that the notification would be removed, but I was assuming that if I reserve it I do not have to actually install, it is that correct?

Have you ever heard of any company reserving positions to upgrade their OS? Anywhere?

I've been in this business for 35 years, and this "scheduling a reservation to upgrade" is nothing more than a marketing shenanigan that Microsoft is pulling. Microsoft has never needed to schedule or reserve spots to send you an upgrade. They own enough hardware to do it all in just a few days. I think it reeks of Microsoft becoming rather desperate to get people to accept Windows 10, and switch over. They are scared to death that Windows 7 will become the new Windows XP.

Microsoft is being challenged like never before. The mobile market has Microsoft shaking in their boots because nothing they do in that space works. Absolutely nothing. They went so far as to spend a huge boatload of money on Nokia, and sales of Nokia phones just flat fell right through the floor. Microsoft Windows based phones holds a pitiful 3% market share. Wooohooo! Thats triple what they had 2 years ago. $7.2 billion spent on buying Nokia alone. And they cant even get 5% market share. I would bet that overall, they have spent over $10 billion on Microsoft Phone marketing and M&A, R&D, and have almost nothing to show for it. But they are smart enough to know that somehow, someway, they must find a way to increase that, or they will be left in the dust in just a few years.

From the show hidden icons pointers you go to customize and then set GWX to "Hide icon and notifications" but may someone actually answer my question or you are going to ask me questions or begin a discussion?

I do agree with you but may you actually read my question before answering because the information you gave me does not help me at all.The mobile market has no connection with the topic at all.

One thing of note is there is a Windows 10 readiness test you can do using the icon.

I'm not getting the all the negativity of reserving the update. Either do it or don't. The thing about Windows 10 being slipped together. Well Windows 10 has been Beta tested by more configurations and installs then any Beta in history.

Yes your eligible for Windows 10 Pro.

Its not even going to be available for another 6 weeks. This new "promo" they snuck in is causing people to think they might have a virus or something. Just look at this thread. Even one of the regular posters here thought it was a virus. In my opinion, they should have asked for permission to drops any kind of promo for something that is still at least 6 weeks away. At least made people aware that this thing was really from Microsoft.

No. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate on two systems. My HTPC has it (showed up about two hours after my original post). My all purpose system does not

Its rolling out, some people will get it before others. I believe if you read the fine print you have a year to claim your free upgrade. I would sit on it and wait to see what windows 10 is like. If it sucks you wont be able to go back to 7.
