Hi,
I'm looking to upgrade my GTX970, which is around 5 years old now. I want a card that will ideally last another 3-4 years. My budget is around $300-400Any suggestions? Thank you.

No, I meant what I said. Perhaps I'm too hard on the 1060.

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1060-pascal,4679-5.html

While there are cases where the 1060 is better and it's probably got better over time, the 1060 6GB is barely better than the 970. They are close enough that OC'd models of the 970 are probably as fast if not faster than stock models of the 1060. Finally, there is no way that I would spend $200-$300 on an "upgrade" for the 1060.

As I write this I also looked at techpowerup's review of the 1060. One thing I like about their reviews is they avg many games give us a good overall view of the cards. They have the 970 at 83% of the speed of the 1060, so perhaps the 970 isn't as fast as I thought. I'm not sure I totally trust that review however as we/Tom's don't show a similar 83% slower speed.

The 970 is actually a touch faster than the 1060 6GB. Finding a card faster than the one you have will be difficult with a $300 budget. (I'm not sure how the 2060 compares, probably similar in performance.) You really need to move to the 1070 or even better the 1070TI or the 2070.

Looking on newegg the best/only new 1070TI is an MSI model for $499. There are several 2070s, but the cheapest is a Gigabyte model for $399. Which is the max budget. All other 2070s are $429-600+ You might want to keep your 970 for longer.

Edit: Looking at our review of the 2060, it should be faster than your 970. The 2060 performs more like the 1070TI so it's a viable upgrade.

That by definition makes the 1060 6GB the better card... It means that OC 1060 6GB can not be matched by OC 970. I know what you mean though, it's not considered an upgrade.

There are plenty of videos on youtube showing a vast collection of games benchmarked with those 2 cards and in each and every game, the average fps are better (from 1-2 fps up to 15fps difference) for the 1060.
