My 11 yr old son has an Ibuypower desktop with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 graphics card. He's got 8G RAM, 3.5 Processor (FX-6300), 1TB hard drive. He wants to upgrade the graphics card but I'm not sure how much he can with the other computer specs. He plays action/sports games and streams a lot. Would a 1070 or 1080 8GB card be too much without any other upgrades? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Solution
There's not a lot of point of anything past a 1060 (arguably past a 1050ti) with an FX-6300 as you get hit hard by diminishing returns. The only exception is if another upgrade is imminent.

Also, always need to check the power supply on these. The "standard" power supplies these mainstream boutique builders include are pretty low-quality. If a real GPU is to be installed, it's worth the investment to get something safer and more dependable with the higher power requirements-slash-more expensive components to protect. That will depend on what GPU you choose. For most GPUs, a high-quality 550W is just fine.

A GTX 1070 or 1080 would be too much for just action and sports games, as well as streaming. You should go with a GTX 1060 6GB, as it does run well with those type of games. You will also get a steady FPS of 60. IT would be a huge bottleneck if you get a 1080 with an FX-Series Processor. If you were playing some games it wouldn't process as well as mainstream processors, like an Intel i-Series or the AMD Ryzen series.
