Upgrade my Sapphire Radeon HD 6870

Hey everyone, I really have been putting this upgrade off way too long and finally it's going to happen. As the title suggests I currently have a sapphire radeon hd 6870 that has been a beast for the majority of this builds life, however it is unable to cope with the newer titles at the framerates I prefer. I would like to stay around $500, so I have looked at the possibility of a gtx 780 or two gtx 760s either the 2 or 4gb SC in SLI. I am also open to staying with AMD as this card has brought me nothing but good feelings. suggestions?

i5-3570k @ 4ghz
8GB DDR3 1866mhz
Sapphire Radeon HD 6870

Going with the single most powerfull card you can afford is better then sli. Because later on you can upgrade that 780 to sli.
