Hi all I have a gaming pc. Was wondering do I upgrade now or wait for next gen stuff. CPU, GPU etc. etc. and build a new PC ?

If upgrade, what should I upgrade first? I have a 1440p 144hz monitor and I game and stream at same time.

Current specs

X570-f motherboard
Ryzen 9 3900x
Rtx 3080 gpu
32gb ram
850w psu

In general, most people (including money burners) will stick to upgrading every other generation. Therefore, that would be Ryzen 8000 and RTX 5000, both of which are confirmed to release later this year.

In your specific case, I would personally wait until Ryzen 9th generation processors, and by that time RTX 6000 should be out as well. Your system is still very good and will carry you for a long time, especially at 1440p (and even longer if you are not a triple-A gamer). If you waited, you could save up some extra cash for better components or a higher end case or maybe even hardline water cooling.

Probably 5800x3D now. We might hear something more about 5xxx series RTX towards end of this year, maybe, highly doubtful it'll land. When it does then Ryzen + DDR5 platform. 5800x3D carry you over until then, maybe it'll satisfy you enough to keep it a while longer when DDR6 drop.

you can upgrade to the 5800X3D and maybe the 4080 super now.

Whats the PSU model in your current PC?

You can manage stream with NVENC and handle discord or chat with a send PC, maybe a laptop.
As stated. I game and stream on same pc.

PSU i have installed is CORSAIR 850W RMx SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET

things i have running in background.

Steam
Discord
Obs
Icue
Elgato Control Centre
Elgato Stream Deck.
Microsoft Edge.

For 1440p if you wanted, upgrade the cpu to the 5800x3d to tie you over. The rtx 3080 is still respectable. If I recall it competed with the rx 6800xt at launch, with these days runs neck and neck with the newer 7800xt. So really you are still at the level of say an rtx 4070. Not that you couldn’t upgrade but no immediate need to I would think.

But the cpu upgrade would let you see how you feel about things, amd should be releasing new CPUs and I think Intel is soon going to be finishing up with the LGA 1700 socket. So a cpu upgrade on your current platform should give a window for things to shake out and you could look at see at that point how you feel about the market.

the RMx is a good model. shouldnt be any issues as it is powering the 3080 without any problems.

Game and stream on the same PC with NVENC and OBS, but i was suggesting you to offload discord and Edge to a laptop cuz the 5800X3D got 8 cores compared to 3900X's 12 cores.

You might get away with 5800X3D and all the programs running at the same time. Check your CPU usage when you do your streaming session.

If suppose your CPU utilisation is on the higher side, here is a 7900X3D suggestion:

you might want to manually configure the game apps to use the X3D CCD in Ryzen master software.

get the thermalgrizzly offset mount for Ryzen 9 CPUs

In what way is your current setup not doing the job?
If you feel that you want more now, then now is the time to buy.
No telling what the future will bring, when, at what price and availability.

On the processor side, you have an easy upgrade with a R9-5900X or even R9-5950X.
Do not go for the X3d variants. They are good for gaming but the underlying processors are much more effective when doing your other work.

Today, why not consider a Monitor upgrade?
A larger/wider 4k monitor can make many games very immersive.
rtings.com would give you some info on them.

I cant upgrade my CPU to 7900x or 7950x. I would need a complete new build. Motherboard etc.

I can install a 5900x or 5950x.. as my motherboard supports them.

mine is a AM4 Build. 7900x is AM5 Build.

My bad!
I have amended my post accordingly.
An ok upgrade, but not truly big. For gaming the5900X is about the same as the 5950x.
For multithreaded processing the extra threads of the 5950X would be good.

Going to AM5 would require DDR5 ram.
Intel 14900K still works well with DDR4 ram.

upgrading now is fine but i would wait till the super cards have debuted. before seeing if upgrading is overall worth it for the 3080.

as for cpu unsure if its worth a jump 32gb should be fine

Do you guys think then I could get another year or 2 years out of it then build a new rig. Already got £4k saved. Up. And thinking about buying a oled monitor aswell
