[SOLVED] Upgrade or Replace System

I have a PC which I built in 2012 that is still a solid performer for most of my needs but I am considering upgrading components, specifically the GPU. I would like to watch 4K content and do some gaming at higher resolutions than my current rig allows.

Current Build:
Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4
CPU: Intel i5-3570k
GPU: EVGA GTX670
HD: Samsung 500GB SSD
HD: Seagate 2TB HD
Ram: 16GB of DDR3
PSU: Corsair Gold 750W
Monitor: LG Ultragear 27”

What are y’all’s thoughts on upgrading the GPU or is the rest of my system going to hold me back? If so would upgrading other components be worth it or should I start considering a new system?

If you're gaming at 1440p or higher, you can easily keep your current rig and upgrade the GPU only.
I'm still on my i7-3820 from 2012 as well, I mostly game at 4k and some at 1440p.

How much are you looking to spend on these upgrades? A 4k video card is probably a 2070 for newer games. If you are not going to be playing games at 4k then 2060 is good for 1440, 1660 super for 1080 with high settings, and it can do many games at 1440 just on lowered settings and not as high of a refresh rate. Make sure your motherboard is on the latest BIOS also, your system age is pretty close to the time that motherboards can have issues running newer video cards.

My ram is borderline I'm aware, but I went from a gtx 750ti to 1660 super and am playing bannerlord currently and I THINK according to my on screen numbers, my cpu is what's currently struggling and hitting the 90s percentage wise. Granted it's not a well optimized game but it seems we in a similar boat rig wise so figured I'd share that the gpu is definitely priority one, and our cpu WAS pretty kick ass up until about a year or two ago now, but it seems the i5 3570k will be needing updating. Just my 2 cents from a similar set up!

Appreciate all the info guys. I’m gonna replace the GPU for the time being but I guess a new mobo and cpu is likely not too far into the future.

I am looking at similar. I see the ASUS X570 boards have pci-e 4.0, and a Sabrent M2 is designed for 4.0 with resulting speeds that are almost unbelievable. All variants have USB 3.2 Gen 1 & Gen 2 (pretty much same as USB 3.1 and Gen 1 is USB 3.0 all over again) and some have an unusually large number of these ports in A and C types. I'd suggest you have a good look at these boards.

Your cpu with 8 threads has a significant advantage over that 4 thread i5. My old i5 4670k was struggling to average 60fps, in newer games and some were lower. Gears 5 was unplayable.
