Upgrade reccomendations

Hi all,
As I said in my previous post I'm having some probs with my computer. If it turns out I need to replace my CPU I might as well upgrade. I have a P4P800 deluve and a P4 2.4c o/c to 3.0. I was looking at prices for P4 CPU's and they aren't that much cheaper than they were two years ago. I thought by now a P4 extreme would be afordable but they aren't. So I'm looking for opinions on what is the best price performance upgrade. It looks like going to an Athlon 64 system is the best bet. What do you guys think?

A lot depends on what you use your system for. True, Amd is most often the way to go, but is dual core fore you?, or would s754 be a better choice?
Also what components do you have to re-use?

Dual core sounds nice but it's new. Wouldn't that be expensive. I'm not up to speed on the new stuff. The benchmarks for dual core are very good though. I also might need a new video card and memory. I just have agp 8x vid and ddr mem. Seeing as my cpu runs at 3.0 with the mem at 250mgz there isn't a major jump in performance going to a 3.2ghz cpu unless it's the extreme version. That still costs like 600 bucks. So what is more worth while? Upgrading to a new MB, CPU etc etc? Or a faster CPU in my current set up. Or just wait ubtil dual core is cheaper?

Oh and the system is used for gaming, video and sometimes multitasking while accesing many files.
