Okay, so I recently purchased a 580 8gb graphics card. I also bought an 850w power supply and also have a 550w lying around. While trying to swap power supplies I notice a cable on my old 320w that isn't on the 850w. It was labeled p2 pwrcmd. I have a hp prebuild office computer (or it started like that) and apparently, you need a hp power supply for a hp motherboard. I'm at a state where I don't know if I should return my card or what. I tried looking for an adapter to find a cheap way around it, but couldn't find anything. The only option I found was to buy a new motherboard (Which I was planning on anyway). The only problem is I was planning on upgrading to ddr4 at some point and all of the LGA 1155 motherboards I found were capped at 16gb ddr3. The only other way to get around this is to buy a new ATX case and also another motherboard that supports ddr4.
Any thoughts?

Quite a fair bit of thinking in there. A recent thread on the forums noted that adapters can be found (though I can't help there) for proprietary motherboards (like the HP you have).

Depending on the precise specs of the system it might be worth thinking of that new build (it's essentially what all these upgrades will be). To clarify: in order to upgrade to DDR4 RAM you would also be upgrading the motherboard and CPU at the same time.

Now, with that out of the way, it would be up to you to think about your budget for such a change. At least it sounds like you're better prepared for it than I was when I upgraded my old prebuilt: new graphics card, then needed a new PSU, then found out my case wasn't large enough....

Thanks, if you know of a good keyword to search for the adapter that would be great.

I'm guessing - this type of adapter, is what you need.
