Question Upgrade Route?

I have a Ryzen 1600x with a GTX 1080. I'm using a 1440p 144hz monitor. What are some good routes for upgrading? Would upgrading to a 3000 series Ryzen chip give me performance worth the money? I've also heard that the 2070 isn't a good upgrade for the 1080. Is that true? Thanks
