I have an old (2014) Inspiron 3542 laptop. Purchased as a prebuilt I have upgraded this to Win 10, but it runs very slowly

The HDD is a 1TB Seagate ST1000LM024 SCSI
I would like to replace this with a SATA SSD to improve speed.
Laptop has 8GB of 1600 DDR3L RAM

Processor is i5-4210U @ 1.7 GHz
I found the specifications at Dell, and this shows a SATA 6Gbps for hard drive.

Can I replace the SCSI drive with a SATA SSD ?
Would replacing the RAM help?
note: I tend to run computers and electronics until they die. I would prefer to fix instead of replacing the laptop.

Solution
I'm running a Win 10 OS on a 15-year-old 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo motherboard. I mostly use it for Internet browsing and email. After replacing the 160GB HDD with a 1TB SSD, the difference was remarkable.
