Hi, I have just purchased a high spec Optiplex 3050 which performs like dream. However, I would like to add a sound card with multiple jack sockets so that I can use my Creative sound system.
Apart from being a small form factor machine, the free slots on the motherboard are very short (approx 1 inch long). Sadly I'm not a techie so am at a loss whether I am able to fit a soundcard that will facilitate my Creative system. Any assistance or ideas would be much appreciated.

Solution
Sound cards come with various size slots mostly related to how old the computer they're going in is. The 1" long slots are PCIe 1x slots. They are small versions of the PCIe 16x slot the GPU goes in. Just look for a PCIe 1x compatible sound card. Since it's SFF it will need to be low profile. Most sound cards will be low profile with an optional full size bracket included. But a high end card could be full height and won't fit.
