Question for the community.

My processor is i7 10700k with 32 gb ram with a RTX 3070ti.

So if I upgrade to a i7 13700k (motherboard, ram, ect.) or to a rtx/rx 4080ish/7900ish it will add up to about $700-1000 dollars either way I go.

Question is, what would be a better upgrade at this point, really can only afford one or the other?

From my understanding the i7 13700 is a beast compared to my i7 10700 and I might see major improvements and on the other hand, the new GPU's are crazy good also. Thanks!

Gaming mostly

If it were me I'd go with the GPU.

I say that having done something similar recently. I had a 10900k/3090 build and I originally threw a 4090 in.

Performance was good... but I still ended up building an entirely new PC instead around the 4090. If it wasn't in the budget I'd have been happy with the 10900k and 4090 despite "CPU bottlenecks" because in 4K gaming I do the GPU is actually a bigger deal.

Even at 1080p or 1440p I'd have done it... just wouldn't have been a 4090.

I know that FPS would increase more with a GPU, but in your case, how was your FPS increase with the new build?

Jaw dropping... but that's because the 4090 is such a beast of a card. We've never seen such a massive improvement from generation to generation like we've seen from the 3090 to the 4090.

At least not since the 900 to 10 series jump. Though in that case there was also a pretty significant power savings from the new generation. Also true between 30/40 series, but they also decided to push the power up anyway to get even more out of it for that extra little bit.
