Upgrade to 1440p or 144Hz?

Hi,

I'm upgrading my monitor for gaming. I currently have a 1080p 60Hz Samsung monitor, and wish to upgrade to either:

144Hz

OR

1440p

Note: My graphics card is a GTX 980 SC so can handle both. The games I would want more frames I would play in 1080p e.g. Counterstrike and CoD MP. While the rest I would play at 1440p and 60FPS.

Note: I would buy a monitor with both, but they are (stupidly) double the price.

However, Is the increase from 1080p to 1440p noticeable on a 27" monitor that is exactly 50cm from your eyes, on a desk?

The difference between 60FPS and 120FPS+ is noticeable though....

So, which should I go for?

Solution
I have a GTX 980 as well. I recommend the QNIX QX2710 as it can be overclocked to 96+Hz and is 1440p. Kind of the best of both worlds IMO.

If you have to choose one over the other, I would argue 90% of the time for 1440p. But if you are a competitive LoL or FPS player, you may like the extra frames more.

Damn its cheap too! Is it simple to overclock the refresh rate?

Freakishly easy. With an NVidea card it is as simple as going into the control panel and creating a new monitor profile with a higher refresh rate. 50x easier and safer than overclocking other hardware and it is all done in windows, no rebooting or BSOD like overclocking CPU or GPU.

Edit: Look at this page for more info. The overclock guide is a bit out of date because it has become easier since they made it, but there is a lot of good info on here.

Awesome thank you a lot! Last question, do you think it will be overclockable that way with Windows 10?

Big problem, all the eBay listings which are cheaper, are all from South Korea :'( Where did you purchase yours?

Not sure if import taxes apply where you are as this can drive up the price and can be a hidden cost if the package is seized.

Sometimes it is best to pay that bit extra for piece of mind and to maintain your consumer rights if they apply in your country.

I'm still searching for another product of similar price. Any I have found that are 1440p and over 60Hz come to £180+ more!
