upgrade to a intel core i7 870 any good

acer predator g5900b / motherboard to change to a better cpu but tis 1156 socket and the only upgrade i can find is intel i7 g870 that has a1156 socket the is it any good put in in gtx 770 graphics card or a r9 290 with one of them are best I have a i5 650 320ghz

For many games the i5 950 and the i7 870 will be just about equal, although the i7 does have an edge in all benchmarks and will be faster in video rendering.

While a high end video card may be bottlenecked by those CPUs depending on the settings and games, it will still be a huge improvement on the stock graphics that would have come with an ACER system.

Keep in mind you need to check your exact motherboard to see if it will support the CPU you want, not just if it has the same socket.

And if you are just now upgrading to a fast video card from stock and the CPU, you will need to upgrade the power supply.

That would depend in part on the cost, and how much improvement you need. It is an upgrade (two tiers per the monthly charts), but it is also money spent on a "dead" platform, so if that isn't enough, it's a waste.
