Upgrade to LGA 1151 from LGA 1155?

Would it be worth while to upgrade to LGA 1151 from LGA 1155?

I currently have an I5 3570k on a MSI ZH77A-G43 motherboard, which means I can only overclock to 3.8 Ghz. I thought about getting a better LGA 1155 motherboard but, nowhere sells them.

It'd cost me about £400 to upgrade to a I5 6600k, Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 5 and compatible DDR4 Ram.

and what’s the difference in price to performance on LGA 1150? Would it be more beneficial?

I'd be using the system paired with a GTX 970 to game on...

It would be a slight performance upgrade. Personally, I can't justify buying a new board, ram, and going through the trouble. I would wait one or two more generations. The i5 3570k shouldn't be giving you any performance issues 😛 You should be good for gaming for the next few years unless you're running like a 4K monitor.

personally if it were me. then no.
the performance gains for the outlay would be negligible at best.

amd are gonna release true 8 core cpu, later this year which will hopefully force intel to do the same. for a reasonable price.
so i would wait untill at least the launch of zen before i would consider an upgrade.

I don't think it's worth it. Each gen is like 5-10% IPC increase. So going to haswell would be 10% if perfect, going to skylake would be 10% if perfect.
So your cpu would be 20% better if it's truely 10%.

This does not mean you will get 20% in games because games are mostly gpu bound so cpu won't scale Linearly.
Some h77 motherboards unlocked multiplier overclocking later on I believe with a bios update, I am trying to see if yours did.

Did some reading, and the OC on an h77 only allows set the multiplier to the max boost multiplier.
Have you tried base clock overclocking?

Upgrade still isn't worth it IMO even if you can't overclock any further.

And just for clarification, because it sounds like you might be confused, Intel socket numbers are not numerically ordered. The larger number is not the newest. From oldest to newest, going back a dozen years or so, here is a list of Intel desktop motherboard sockets:

LGA775 - 2004
LGA1366 - 2008
LGA1156 - 2009
LGA1155 - 2011
LGA2011 - 2011
LGA1150 - 2013
LGA1151 - 2015

I'd probably stick with a Z77 chip set.
