Upgrade to newer gens or buy second hand Hasswell. (From FX 8320)

I need some input on this, currently I have an AMD FX-8320 but I'm looking for better performance. The logical choice as of now would be to switch to Ryzen, but given the current DDR4 prices it's not really affordable. On the other hand, I've been lurking on eBay for second hand Haswell and LGA1150 mobos, wich is the last gen to support DDR3.

What's the better approach? is Haswell a bad idea for future proofing? should I take the bullet and buy Ryzen and DDR4?

Solution
One problem with upgrading to current or older Intel chips is that they're all vulnerable to Meltdown and Spectre exploits along with the sometimes severe performance degradation from patches for those exploits. I'd wait to upgrade to Cannon Lake or later chips which should be immune or at least much less susceptible to both without the need for performance-altering patches.

On the AMD side, Ryzen+ is coming out around April. I'd wait for that and 400-series chipsets unless you're really in a hurry to upgrade.

You have a point, plus, AM4 is going to stick for a while and luckyly i think i can wait for new Ryzen chips.
