Hello,

I want to replace my existing HDD(500 Gig) , In my Toshiba SateliteC655, with a 1TB SSD. I know very little about computers. I only want to replace it because I've had this laptop for six years and use it all the time and I've heard the drives go out. This comp works so well for me and to buy a new one w a 1TB SSD is way more than the 300.00 cost of an internal 1TB SSD.

Is it possible for me to do this on my own?

How would I re-install my OS?

I have a some software I'd want to keep: i.e. Adobe CS5 and Nero, how would I go about keeping those programs(I no longer have the serial #'s)?

Thanks!

Make a backup of the hdd is always recommended.
Next clone the current hdd to the new ssd. Then when the clone is done, install the ssd in place of the hdd.
Make sure your ssd comes with the usb cable so that you can have both drives connected to your laptop; if you dont have one already; if not plan on another $15 or so.

If you can afford the Samsung EVIO SSD , get that. They have a program called Samsung Magician that is great. It will let you set performance versus reliability settings, test performance, and it even has a mode called RAPID that uses RAM as well as the SSD. My read write went from 500+- to over 3000 with that mode enabled.
