Hi,

I am wondering if it's worth upgrading from my i5 2500k to a i5 4690k. I don't OC my CPU and also do not game a lot. However I want a good CPU which can handle games like BF4 GTA V etc etc good at ultra. Besides gaming I am also using my computer for 4k... Now this is the point where I am wondering if it's worth upgrading. I know only 4th generation of Intel supports displayport 1.2 which has a 60hz framerate. Also my monitor and GTX 970 supports displayport 1.2.

Is it worth upgrading from i5 2500k to a i5 4690k without having any problems with gaming or watching/editing 4k videos.

Solution
Your motherboard is lga1155, a 4690k upgrade is not possible.
You could upgrade to a i7-3570K. About a 10% improvement in capability.
You can also overclock a "K"; that is what the "K" is intended for.
Perhaps another 10% from overclocking.
Is that worth it to you?
Only YOU can determine worth.

The best possible upgrade is to a i7-4790K and a lga1150 motherboard. That will give you about a 75% boost in capability.

The integrated graphics capability of the processors is not germane, since you have a discrete graphics card.

GTX970 is appropriate for 1080P gaming.

I know buying the haswell processor also needs a new motherboard... Actually the buying thing is not the problem. I just don't wanna use my money for something I am not going to use. Might consider i7 4790k with a Z97 motherboard. I do not really need the "K" because I am not going to overclock.
