Upgraded BIOS or not??

Hi all,

I used @BIOS (can't abide farting around with floppy drives anymore ;o) to
flash from the F6 to F7 BIOS. After a few problems (stalled downloads etc.)
the update process seemed to go fine and F7 is now listed during the boot-up
sequence. However, SiSoft's SANDRA indicates that the BIOS version is F6.

Simple question - which one should I believe?

TIA

I don't think you should believe any of them. I have a two-year-old 8KNXP
rev. 1 which originally came with F5, current being 13a, and both Sandra and
CPUZ show F5. Everest, OTOH, shows F6. I've upgraded the bios 4-5 times in
this two-year period, F6 being the first, so none is reporting the correct
bios version, which is indicated correctly (13a) at POST.

If the POST screen says "F7" after your mobo model#, believe it.

I've run into the same thing on my mobo. For some reason none of the
utilities I've used properly display the correct BIOS version of my mobo
either, except good old AIDA32.

I just flashed my GA-K8NS-Ultra 939 from F5 to F6, but here is what I
get with the following utilities after I flashed the BIOS:

Nero InfoTool:
BIOS Award F2 (The report indicates no BIOS date)

Belarc Advisor:
BIOS: Award Software International, Inc. F2 05/04/2005

FreshDiagnose:
BIOS Name: Award Modualr BIOS v6.00PG
BIOS ID: 05/04/2005-nForce-6A61CG0MC-00
BIOS Vendor: Award Software International, Inc.
BIOS Version: F2
BIOS Date: 05/04/05

AIDA32:
BIOS Type: Award Modular
Award BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
Award BIOS message: GA-K8NS-Ultra-939 F6
System BIOS Date: 05/04/05

The odd thing is of all these utilities, AIDA32 is the oldest, yet
it is the only one of the four that accurately reports my mobo's BIOS
version.

Sandra is right and wrong, it was the same with the so called official F5
BIOS i had for my 8KNXP-9. CPU-Z reported it as F4, but when i installed the
updated F5 BIOS file dated May 3rd 2005 CPU-Z reported it as F5.

The BIOS is F7 but it's not been labeled correctly as yet.

Heh. I just checked my BIOS with CPU-Z as well, and it too reports my
BIOS version as "F2".

Funny how AIDA32 is the only one that got it right, and it's older than
all the others from what i understand.

I have a similar problem with my 8IPE1000, BIOS reports as F9, external
utilities report as F7.

Rick is absolutely right. The POST screen will tell you definitively which
BIOS is installed. I have found by trial & error that when using Q-Flash to
upgrade the BIOS, you should set the "Keep DMI Data" option to "Disable." If
you don't do this, utilities such as SiSoft Sandra will often report that
you are using an older version of the BIOS. Apparently, the old version
information is part of the DMI Data that is preserved if you do not disable
this option. I have observed no downside to using this approach.

Thanks! I've always wondered about that!

BTW, being a Rick M. myself and also married, I NEVER hear the first
sentence You wrote! Looks good in print anyway!

You poor guy! Being single myself, I rarely hear that sentence either,
so don't feel bad. ;-)
