Hey everyone,

First of all, happy holidays to anyone who is celebrating.
I recently upgraded my GPU from a GT 730 to a GTX 970, and I’m using an older motherboard, the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 Rev 2.1. Everything works great, but I’m encountering something odd.

Whenever I power on the system, I get 1 long beep followed by 1 short beep. According to the Gigabyte manual, this usually means a memory or hardware error. However, I’ve run multiple stress tests, including benchmarks like Heaven, FurMark, and 3DMark, along with Windows 7 benches and my graphics score is 7.9, and I haven’t experienced any crashes, artifacts, or performance drops.

Here are my system specs for context:
Motherboard: GA-P35-DS3 Rev 2.1
GPU: GTX 970 (upgraded from GT 730)
CPU: Q9550; OC to 3.67 GHz
RAM: G.SKILL F2-6400CL5D 2x2 GB (In slots 2 and 4)
PSU: MSI MAG A650BN

I’m wondering:
1. Could the beep code be related to the age of the motherboard and its compatibility with the GTX 970?

2. Is it possible that the POST is misinterpreting something, even though the system runs perfectly under load?

3. Should I be worried about this, or can I ignore it as long as performance is stable?

If anyone has experience with this combo or similar issues, I’d appreciate your input!
Thanks in advance!

Short Update:

The GPU works. I installed drivers in XP, Vista, 7 and 8.1. No issues at all. But what could be the long beep sound? The short beep just indicates that the System POSTED with no issues.

Guys, I came up with a solution that fixed this long beep before the POST beep. I needed to update the VBIOS firmware of my GPU, so I did that, and the long beep is no longer heard. Success ;D
