An assassin build recipe by C-Beat on DII strategy.net gives the following
info on boots:

"Upgraded Goreriders
These are the best boots for this build. The elite version has the highest
damage of all boot types and Gorerider also comes with crushing blow. This
is the boots you will want to get.
Grade 5/5

Normal Goreriders
These are still useful for the CB, however the kick damage is so low that it
starts to get hard killing things in hell. They work very well through
nightmare though.
Grade ¾"

What are "upgraded Goreriders"? I've checked the Arreat Summit and can find
no mention of anything other than the Exceptional Unique Goreriders...no
"Elite" version. How does one "upgrade" one's Goreriders? Am I missing
something obvious here? Thanks for any info.

From: http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/cube.shtml

1 Ko Rune + 1 Lem Rune + 1 Perfect Diamond + Exceptional Unique Armor =
Elite Version of Armor (Ladder Only)
This formula changes the base item type from the exceptional to elite
version. For example Ghost Armor is turned into a Dusk Shroud. This does NOT
convert the item to the Elite Unique version of the Unique Item. Unique item
bonuses remain the same; only the item it's based on is upgraded. This can
be used to upgrade Ethereal Items also. They will continue to be Ethereal
after they are upgraded. You cannot do this formula unless you are using a
Ladder Character. Also if the item is socketed, then jewels or runes and
their mods will also remain. Armor refers to any sort of armor, including
helms, boots, belts, gloves and shields, not just body armor.
