Gateway FX 6801

Upgraded from Vista 64 to Win7 64 and the Creative audio console stopped working. I get a message saying that a compatible device is not detected.

Installed the latest Realtek HD audio drivers, and the problem still persists.

Any ideas?

Well, The 7-zip thing worked, but unfortunately the Creative software is not compatible with my system. *JOY*. So I'm back to square one.. either I wait for an update which most likely won't happen, OR get Gateway or Future Shop to fork over an actual physical sound card OR, buy one and stick it in the rig and call it a day.
I have yet to play games on this new computer so I will try it. 🙂 I'll have to buy some first |O|. Thanks again for the help. I will let everyone know what Gateway says over the next few days. Any bets on what the results will be? ha!

Thing is, Gateway was acquired by Acer something like 2 or 3 years ago.

So the people at Gateway really don't know what they are talking about and the only way you are going to get a physical card out of them is if they slipped up with the wording of the legal description of your system and what it contains in the way of a sound solution.

Hell, they don't even have access to the actual motherboard service manual.

In case you don't already have this, here is the address for the Creative Labs Forums

Acer also owns Packard Bell and eMachines. I don't recall who else they own.

Haha, why are you complaining about Gateway? It's not their fault. You should have been done some more research about the x-fi MB chips, like many hardware companies use them (ASUS, MSI...). These are SoundMax or Realtek chips that have embedded x-fi software, not hardware!
AND...
With all my respect but.. You use that 'crap' for recording?
I have many experience with Home Recording, since my brother does it now for 12 years or more..
That's a relatively good pc for gaming, altrough NOBODY buy's a branded PC for gaming 😱
If you are using it for home recording, buy somthing like a RME sound card or sell the pc and buy a mac pro or some and a appogee symphony with the rosetta, not that shitty creative ***..
SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH.
