Hey,

I currently have an FX6831-01c with an AMD 5850HD. I've had this PC since 2010 and has served me well for playing games up until recently. I'm not big on maxing out graphics, and have been able to play The Phantom Pain, Fallout 4, and The Witcher 3 without any issues at the lowest graphical settings. I have been playing The division just fine with the setup as well until recently when light sources in the game started strobing and making the game unplayable.

My PC specs are available at http://www.cnet.com/products/gateway-fx6831-01/specs/

I believe the only difference with the specs on the site and my PC is my RAM is maxed out at 16GB.

I was wondering what sort of options I have for upgrading my GPU, as far as budget goes I'd like to keep it under $300(CDN). I plan on eventually trying my hand at building a PC on my own, so if the card can be relevant for a few more years that would be preferred.. assuming my system is compatible with a newer card.

I appreciate any advice I can get!

That system should run pretty much any video card, it's listed with a 750 watt power supply. Even if it's not a good quality one, will run most video card with no issues.

nVidia GTX 970 is good in your price range and it will be a viable gaming card for several years easily. Make sure you do a BIOS update on it first. Although in Canada it may be over $300. GTX 960 is also OK if that is more in your budget, or Radeon R9 380X.
