Upgrading AMD A4-3400 with A8-3870K for $60+ on MSI A55M-P33 MB be a good spending?
Self built DT in 2013 for typical home PC for web+, and upgraded components overtime to 8GB DDR3 mem with 256 MB SSD, USB3, etc.
Now with frequent Zoom use, it repeatedly asked to close apps for better audio quality. Noted that CPU maxes out for several seconds, resulting choppy audio.
Memory use is ~90% (6.8/7.5GB) at the time for a few seconds, PFL acceptable with SSD hits still low @ <10%.

Is the 8GB RAM a single stick or two 4GB sticks? If you have a memory shortage, a new CPU won't fix that. Your motherboard supports 16GB RAM.

The 3870K CPU is NOT on the supported CPU list for that motherboard -- https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/A55M-P33/support#cpu It is a 100W CPU and there are supported 100W CPUs, but you are on your own. Have you found any threads where someone has successfully used that CPU with that motherboard ?
Your existing CPU is a 65W. Your proposed CPU swap is 100W, if you have the stock cooler, you will need a new one.

Hello colleague. From one retired engineer to another.
Except for couple of cores and threads it wouldn't be much of a gain because it's so far obsolete. You are most probably have to get a second hand CPU because those are EOL for almost 10 years. Any even lowest and cheapest new systems would beat that one 4 to 1 and give you few more years of service.
