Upgrading AMD CPU in Dell Optiplex 740 DT Enhanced

I have just received a Dell 740 DT Enhanced with a AMD 64 X2 CPU mounted on a Dell oyp806 motherboard and no OS installed. The COA sticker is for Vista Business OS.
I understand the motherboard should work with a 64 bit OS and a AMD Quad-Core CPU. The question is which CPU should I get tat would work in this motherboard? The socket should be a AM2 but I do not know if a CPU using a AM2+ socket would work. I would like to use the system for light photo work and family history. That brings up the question as to what video card to use. I would like to update the power supply into the 740 to 800 range as to not overload the system. It has been a very long time since I have built a desktop computer so any information would be of great help.

Here's the specs on that line of Dell PC. You'll have to pick whether it is a slimline, desktop, or minitower.

They may still have drivers and updates available. But that is a pretty outdated system. Any chance of finding a CPU for it will be hit and miss. Ebay would probably be your best place to look. Chances of finding a new CPU will be next to impossible.

The 740 DT mid-tower has a YP806 motherboard installed. It has a AMD X2 2.3 CPU but the bios setup displays ENHANCED. The bios is 2.2.1 and it should be updated to 2.2.7
This s the same motherboard that is in another 740 DT mid-tower that I have that has a AMD X4 Quad 9600B CPU w/ bios 2.2.7 installed. This computer came from Dell with the Quad CPU in 2009.
I can get a AMD Phenom X4 2.3GHz 9600B Quad Core CPU Processor #HD960BWCJ4BGH but the question is this the correct Quad CPU for the YP806 motherboard. I can't find the answer some how. Can someone tell me if this combo would work?

If you can find the 2.2.7 BIOS that the other board has, it would have to work since you proved it with the other system. It sounds like you answered your own question.
Same Dell PC, Same MB, Same CPU, possibly needs a newer BIOS.

Most of the time I question myself. I just check my thinking all the time to make sure it is correct. Dell has the bios update on their web site. I just found a wed site a few minutes ago that shows the AMD P/N that is displayed on the 9600B's as being the same as the ones that Dell used on the original build in the Quads. Thanks for the feed back.
