[SOLVED] Upgrading an older PC

Hi,

I'd like to upgrade my gaming PC and I'm looking for some advice. Here are the parts I currently have:

CPU: Intel - Core i5-4590 3.3 GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard: Gigabyte - GA-B85M-D3H Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Memory: Crucial - Ballistix Tactical 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Video Card: Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 970 4 GB WINDFORCE 3X Video Card
Case: Cooler Master - Elite 350 ATX Mid Tower Case w/500 W Power Supply
Power Supply: SilentiumPC - Vero L1 500W v2
Storage: Transcend - 128GB SATA SSD 370 + some older drives

I was thinking to spend around $1100 and would like to buy it as soon as possible as I'm moving out from the US in a month.
I don't really care for OC and RGB lighting and such and I'm playing fairly recent games (R6 Siege, PUBG, Black Ops 4).

Since I was planning to upgrade to i7-8700K, it seems I also need to upgrade the Motherboard and RAM to DDR4.
Is it worth it to get the i7-9700K? Maybe there is some i5 that would do the trick?

As for the GPU, I'm having trouble deciding between GTX 1070 Ti or really pushing the budget to get a GTX 2080.
I'm currently at NVIDIA so I can buy a Founders Edition GPU with a discount (e.g. RTX 2080 for $669; 1070 Ti for $354; RTX 2070 for $489, before tax).

It seems like the current PSU isn't great and I would have to upgrade it too. Would it be possible to use a CPU cooler from my current setup (4th gen i5) in the new build?

Here's a build that I came up with (I've used a random make 1070Ti card in the pcpartpicker link and modified the total in the text below):
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel - Core i7-8700K 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor ($379.99 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: CRYORIG - H5 Ultimate 76 CFM CPU Cooler ($59.89 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: Gigabyte - Z390 UD ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($124.40 @ Amazon)
Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($99.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital - Blue 500 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($67.89 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: GeForce GTX 1070 Ti Founders Edition ($354 @ NVIDIA)
Power Supply: SeaSonic - FOCUS Plus Gold 550 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($79.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $1172.15

Is there any way to get this cheaper without sacrificing fundamentals? E.g. is the CPU too fast for the GPU or no need to buy the PSU?
Is there anything that is really worth pushing for? E.g. i7-8700K -> i7-9700K or 1070 Ti -> 2080?

Thanks!

Solution
You can buy a cheaper Z370 motherboard and get overclocking. The z390 boards are meant for 9th gen, where z370 is for 8th gen. You could get slower ram since intel doesn't care much about ram speed, but i think your already getting a good deal with the 3000. I wouldn't go with a cheap PSU, the one you have on the list is a very good PSU. Could get a cheaper cooler aswell.

Im assuming your getting the 1070ti used or refurb? They dont make them anymore so prices are high. If you want to spend about 500 on a video card, buy an rtx 2070.

Thanks! I'll go with the 370 motherboard and the cheaper cooler.
I can get a new 1070 Ti FE for $389 or RTX 2070 FE for $534 with an employee discount. Just need to decide on either and should be good to go!
