12GB Ram - no idea what this is. AM3 CPUs, such as the Phenom II X6 1100T, are compatible with DDR2 or DDR3.

You can use an AM3+ motherboard. AMD 990FX chipset would be best, cheaper would be 970 chipset. You need DDR3 memory.

Some newer models have M.2 Sockets.

I do have DDR3 - 12 Gigs of it (2x4 & 2x2). Thank you for the reccomendations, this is exactly what I needed. What is the benefit of M.2 socket?
