What do you want to do with this computer? Game? Everyday PC use? Business? Web surfing? That is a really old machine from the sound of it (Intel D945PWM board). The CPU support list doesn't included any quad cores because they weren't out when that board was manufactured. This is the CPU support list:

All the CPUs listed are very, very old and obsolete. The only place to find them would be someplace like ebay, and you'll be buying used. I would steer clear of it, if I were you.

The fastest CPU would be a Pentium D 960 3.4Ghz. It is 65% slower than a Core2 Duo 65nm E6700 2.66Ghz which can be had for about $10 or less. Not worth the trouble. Look in my sig. I'm a guy who loves to max. out old computers. .
Unless you find a BIOS update that supports 65nm Core2 chips it's hopeless..

I've always been curious about the 65W Q9550s. No O/C info available. I have a Q9505s (less cache) With 132Wmax.TDP and rated temp of 73*C i think it should O/C pretty far. If the OP can find a BIOS those old P4 motherboards can really rock. 130W chips and up to 3.8Ghz. My old Dell is one of them, but it's a 965 chipset.
