I'm not sure if this should go here in CPUs or in the Mac Forum. Since it's the same Intel CPU that could go in a PC, I think here is the right place for the post.

I have a 2007 iMac, with Model Identifier iMac7,1. RAM is upgraded from 1 GB to 4 GB. On EveryMac.com, the Mac's serial number takes me to this page:

https://everymac.com/systems/apple/...duo-2.4-20-inch-aluminum-specs.html#macspecs1

I don't see a serial number for the motherboard, does anyone know where I can find that?

The Mac shipped with a Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz CPU. My primary question is whether I can upgrade to a chip such as this Core 2 Quad 3.0 GHz CPU:

https://smile.amazon.com/Intel-Corp...re+2+Quad&qid=1619683384&s=electronics&sr=1-9

If so, what issues would I encounter with the Mac's 800 MHz bus speed vs the new chip's 1333 MHz bus speed?

I've only done 2 CPU upgrades, and those were both on PCs, so I deeply appreciate assistance. Thank you!

Solution
You have the T9900 that could work depending on your luck (it has 1066fsb).

From what I've read the Quad CPU won't work on 2007 iMac because the chipset and OS don't support Quad CPU.

I appreciate the reply.

The T9500 is a core 2 duo 2.6 GHz. It's only an 8% improvement in CPU speed vs. my current core 2 duo 2.4 GHz. Do I have any other CPU options?

I recall reading once that an upgrade to a core 2 quad 2.4 GHz is possible. Could you point me in the right direction regarding this?

Thank you!
