Currently have
Mobo: ASUS M4A87TD
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955
PSU: FirePower ModXStream Pro 600W
GPU: GTX 760 2GB

So onto the potential upgrades. I am pretty dead set on getting the i5 6600k but having never been intel I have no idea what I should do for a motherboard. I am okay with going with a board that supports DDR4 but in that case I would also need new RAM so I guess suggest that as well. This would be the more "future proof" choice correct (getting DDR4 that is)? As far as a PSU goes... I think I want modular correct? As this would be easier to work with and could reduce clutter (side not I have a lot of fans so i would like a PSU with lots of options for connections etc if thats possible).

If you want to OC, then K version its your choice, about mobos, check any Z170 mobos, and yes, you will need DDR4 ram.

About future proof, dont worry, its the latest of cpu releases and you will be fine, for years.

About PSU, well, that depends, i love modular ones (currently own a semi-modular one), i plug everything needed and the another cables can save it and use with really needs.

Remember to pick a Cooler Fan!!

This is what I'd get, it has all the parts you'll need for your upgrade as well

What do you mean when you say remember to pick a Cooler Fan. Also, do you think you could link some Z170 motherboards? I don't really know what this even means.. is it a chipset or something

Also: Microcenter has the i5 6600k w/$20 off with a compatible motherboard. Can we link a motherboard(s) here possibly?

Can you please break down what you have picked and why? I'm sorry I'm just... out of the game. I haven't built a computer in many years (as you can tell by my current build!). What does that motherboard offer me?

6600k doen't have a stock cooler, so you need to purchase one
Z170 is the chipset of the motherboard, different chipset can offer different features of motherboard, and Z170 is the best one for 6600k

May I ask why the z170 is the best?

It supports CPU overclcok, has most SATA/USB3.0/RAM ports, best PCI-E configuration and some other features.
Usually, MB manufacturers pay most attention on their Z170 board
