Upgrading Cpu question

I wanted to upgrade my current Cpu to a Q8400 2.66 quad, i play a lot of games like the witcher2, shogun total war, and etc. I also want to be able to play the new games that are coming out like battlefield 3.

Current computer specs:

E8500 3.16
GTX 560 ti
4gb
2tb hdd

My question is, will upgrading to the Q8400 quad make a difference in the games? and is it worth it

to the newer games written for quad core CPU's yes
for your older games no.

if u can get it for the right price it may be worth it.

Well, the question is, do you want to spend $180 or so on a processor that is a generation behind? Since you seem to have other components that seem adequate, maybe upgrading your motherboard to an AM3+ (current AMD generation) or Socket 1155 (Intel) would be a better option, for a little more money?

^ Agreed, I would not spend money on a faster S775 CPU right now. I suggest you save up for a new CPU+Mobo+RAM combo on a new platform.

775 is dead, unless you can get it cheap on ebay , switch to AM3+ or 1155.

yea thats true, now would all Atx motherboards fit in my case, right now i have a Dell XPS 630
