[SOLVED] Upgrading CPU

I have a HP Pavilion 580-023w gaming PC which came with i5-7400 CPU. I want to upgrade to better CPU preferably a 6 core compared to my quad. When I did some research, it seems like my motherboard Odense2-K has a H170 chipset. It seems like only CPUs that can be upgradeable are within intel 100 series. I don't see any option to upgrade to compatible 6 core CPUS. I am still a newbie to gaming PC so I am not sure. Are there more options for me with my motherboard to upgrade into 6 cores? I only found i7-7700 being compatible with mine which is another quad core.

No, you need another motherboard (specifically the H/Z3xx boards) if you want to use the 8th and 9th generation Intel CPUs.

Man that sucks...so my only choice I can think of is i7 7700... which is $300 and higher... probably wait until it goes on sale!

i wouldn't do that - the 7xxx series is a dead socket, you would be better off investing in a new rig at this point
i'd recommend the ryzen3xxx series

Any investment above 100 dollars into getting a new cpu for that platform is madness
as the 7 series is still a 4 quad cpu while we are moving on to 6 - 8 and more core cpu's
