I have an i5 4690k with 16 gigs of DDR3 ram (4 sticks of Hyper x fury ram two are 1600mhz KHS1600C10D3/4G and two are 1866 mhz KHS1866C10D3/4G) although a bit mismatched this ram works at 1600 mhz seemingly ok. Will 2 sticks of 8 gb 2400mhz CL 11 DDR3 ram improve gaming performance? I'm looking at used "DDR3 2400MHz G.Skill Ripjaws DIMM Overclock Gaming Memory" on ebay. Unfortunately they do not list a part number but I think it would work. Any estimates of FPS increase or any other info would be appreciated.

But if you really want to improve gaming at a more substantial level keeping your motherboard, a 4790 (or 4790k if you want to risk previous treatment as in OC albeit locked 4790 would be safer) with more threads will do more for you in a lot of titles than ram speed.

I assume you intend to remove the mixed pairs of memory you have now and replace with the "new" pair. Correct?

The gain won't be huge. What are the specs for the rest of your system (make/model of all installed components)?
Hi thanks for the reply. Yes I'm contemplating changing the ram with the 2 8 gig sticks.
My system:
i5 4690k OC at 4.5 ghz with noctua NH u14s cooler,
16 gig of the kingston ram mentioned,
Z87-A motherboard,
GTX 1650 super
CX600M power supply

Thanks for the reply! Very interesting article about ram. The 4790 is a good chip I'm surprised how cheap it is!

Man, i used to run 1080Ti with 2600K at 4.5 and it performed really well, 10~15 fps less compared to 8700k. If you're looking for more performance, Gtx 1650 could certainly be upgraded too.

4790 will suffice an Rtx 3060 or even 3060Ti which the 1080Ti sits in-between. The psu would be questionable though, could maybe get away with it but again you could upgrade that as well and repurpose it in a new build if you decide to do so. Corsair Rm750x or Rm850x for example, alas Rm650x would do if you only went 3060Ti.
