Im making the transition between AGP and PCI-e motherboards. My BFG 6800GT OC is no longer usable and im looking for an equiverlant card in PCI-e format. The trouble is that im getting confused as to what my options are, i cannot aford the 7800 cards and any other Nvidia chipsets on the market seem to compromise on the 16 pipelines i alreadly have. The X850 XT seems to be the only conparable card, however this would mean losing pixel shader 3 support of my current card. The upgrade card is only intended as a stopgap for a year or so. Any thoughts on this matter would greatly be appreciated.

Becuase he's making the transition to PCI-E from AGP, and his 6800GT is AGP....therefore making is useless for a PCI-E board.
You just have to read his post a little closer...

Unless or course, he feels like buying a PCI-E AGP hybrid board =)

Thanks for the replys
my buget is quite small, im basicaly going to part exchange it for an equivalent card spending upto £60 ontop. Id love to get the PCI-e version (6800GT or 6800 ultra) but they seeem to be a little hard to get hold of. Im not sure about the newer chipsets they all seem to have weaker archtecture(less pipes ect). has anyone seen a supertest of all the cards past and old??

If that would be his route, I'd honestly tell him to wait the little while longer for the X1800GTO.

I didnt realize you were in the UK, sorry about that. PCI-E 6800 series cards are easy to find in the U.S. --hence my link.

EDIT: You could look for a cheap(er) 7800 series. I know you said there out of your budget, just look real hard though. Becuase if the 6800 line is that hard to get ahold of, I'm really hard pressed to find a decent equivalent card from ATI. (Midranged hasnt been there thing lately)

Spontayo may have something here that I forgot about.
6800GS, might be worth a shot.

As for the 7900GT, he said that would be out of his price range...

I take it the 6800GS would perform slightly worse than the card i have at the moment? With only 12-8pixel pipes (as oposed to my 16), it would be nice to find a supertest which covers all the cards in question including my old one.
