My current setup it this.

I am currently maxing out my gtx 760 in every single game i play.
I also play skyrim with some mods and are maxing out the video memory completely.
I am only gaming at 1080p on a single 60hz monitor.
I plan on upgrading to a asus vg248qe.
I will be using the 60hz monitor as a secondary then.
I have been thinking of getting a gtx 970.
The video memory being 3.5 gigabytes doesn't really bother me.
I don't think i would use that much at 1080p anyway.
I am on a budget so keep that in mind.
I am just going to upgrading the Gpu.
I am open to Amd also.
Would it be better to wait for the Amd R9 300 series to see how it performs?
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thank you for all the help in advance.

r9 300 series is way to expensive and its not worth upgrading to gtx 970 or 960 since you won't need 1440p performance from 970 and 960 dosent give as much of an increase in performance. you may get more fps by upgrading that cpu since that is holding you back fps. if you must go for 970 or r9 290 maybe even an sli set up

I don't think it hurts wait after AMD launches their new R9 300 series depending on how it looks we may see a 960Ti or maybe a 980Ti. So the current line up for AMD and Nvidia may change and prices may drop. Or you could buy something now, what is your budget? I always picture computer hardware like a cold river rushing by. Sooner or later you got to bite the bullet and just jump in. The important thing is your happy with your decision and you have a smile on your face when you reach over and hit the button on your rig.

I would recommend getting the r9 290x it will work just fine with a lot of games, the 970 is not worth getting over the 290x, the 970 has 500 mb slower memory and its a little more expensive

I have seen some the new evga 970 ssc like $30 dollars cheaper than a asus 290x. I really don't think I will never hit 3gbs of video memory. The whole 3.5/.5 video memory fiasco doesn't bother me. If i can get a really nice gtx 970 for cheaper than i will go for that.
