[SOLVED] Upgrading from a i5 4460 to a i5 9400F

Hi I have a Asus Z97-E motherboard and I was thinking of upgrading my i5 4460 to a i5 9400f. Can my motherboard support it? Thanks

Unfortunately not, both gens use a different cpu socket. Z97 has Lga 1150 and 9400f uses Lga 1151 socket but only compatible with 300 series motherboards. I say 300 because 100/200 series boards also has Lga 1151 but don't have the necessary pins to be compatible.

B365 as a motherboard suggestion.

Also a newer cpu/motherboard combination will need new DDR4 RAM.

You will need a new 300 series motherboard to support 9thgen and also a motherboard supported ram
