Upgrading from a Samsung Galaxy S4, any suggestions?

I bought my S4 off of ebay about 3 years ago and it has served me well but it is dying a slow and painful death (random shut offs, loses signal where I should have signal, not picking up calls) so I am in the market for a new phone. Except I am so confused. I thought about the Galaxy S8, but honestly I feel sick to my stomach with that $800 price tag and with all the poor reviews I see on it on Verizon's website.

I'm not considering Apple or Google because I would like a headphone jack. Can anyone shed some light? I don't really care what brand it is as long as I get my headphone jack.

Put the S8 in a case and wait for it to go on sale somewhere (I picked mine up - NEW - for $420). Phenomenal phone, and not nearly as fragile as lots of people make it out to be.

You don't give much detail on HOW you use the phone.

Play any games?

Use the camera for stills or video?

Watch movies?

Have a look at the Sony Xperia models. I've had mine 5 years and it's never been a bit of trouble.
