Just a quick question to anybody that might know, would this be a viable upgrade? I mainly use my computer for gaming, and felt the need to upgrade my CPU to something a -little- bit nicer, and hoping to at least have some sort of improvement while playing games.

Other specs:
GPU: GTX 960 SC, 2GB
RAM: 2x4GB @ 1600MHz
MOBO: MSI 970 Gaming

Passmark (Single Core)
Phenom II X6 1045T: 1,074
FX 6300: 1,446
FX 8350: 1,525
i5 4570: 2,068

As seen above, this is a good indication of what performance increase you'll get. People here are very hasty to tell you to switch to Intel, but you can get a relevant improvement by going from the Phenom II X6 to the FX-6/FX-8 CPUs.

If you can overclock your Phenom to the FX speeds, you'll get a similar performance. The Phenoms weren't really great overclockers so.. If not, you might as well upgrade. The FX-8350 is not really worth it unless you do other heavy multithreaded stuff. I'd stick with upgrading to the FX-6300 or FX-8320 in that case, and overclock it to at least FX-8350 speeds. No, not really. The Phenom II x6 processors still hold their own fairly well, even ahead of the FX-6xxx processors. It would be like going from a 6300 to an 8320, not really an upgrade.
If you want something worth your money for the processor, you are looking at a switch to intel.

You're not going to gain very much, I'd say stick with it until AMD Zen comes out. I still have a X6 1090T and considering throwing that back in my system that has the FX 4350 right now, also used to have an 8320, 8320E and 8350.

These CPUs overclock quite well, provided you have a power supply that can feed it. Your motherboard should not be an issue.

The best option is still to wait for Zen... As suggested above.
