Upgrading from Gigabyte GA-970A-D3 to GA-970A-D3P

Will upgrading from the GA-970A-D3 to GA-970A-D3P require a reinstall of windows? I can't currently access my PC as the CPU being used is screwed and my new CPU is unsupported right now as I don't have the bios update.

Is it possible to access my PC for a brief period of time before formatting to grab important data after the upgrade of the motherboard or will I need to wipe my HDD and start fresh.

You don't need reinstall the OS (Windows os) when you change the MB from the GA-970A-D3 to GA-970A-D3P, but you need use the phone system to reactive the OS. Because both MB have the same chipset or other drivers, when you boot up the PC the OS will reinstall all the drivers you need. And you need to update them later if you want.

I know it's not much of an upgrade, but I had no real issues with my board for the past going onto 4 years and dont mind spending $85 AUD to get a "newer" model to support my new CPU, this PC is more of a throw away with no real OC or such happening just a light gaming pc & work pc
