Hey guys,
So I’ve decided I’m going to upgrade Tommy graphics card as I’m starting to see my GTX970 fall behind with newer titles.

Setup:
GTX 970
i7700k 4.2
16 DRR4
2x SSD
144Hz 1080p monitor
60hz 720p secondary display

My budget is about 300-400€ but if I can save a few € don’t be shy about suggesting something else!

thanks!

Solution
Your actual rig seems to suit well a RTX 2060 or 2060S. It's the best choice for 1080p now, in my opinion, and it is also well within your budget.
If you get the RTX 2060 you will also save a few euros, as a RTX 2060 Super is close to the top end of your budget. They are a significant upgrade from 970 for sure.

If saving a buck is not mandatory, I would go for the RTX 2060 Super. It has great power for its price and it also comes with 8 Gb. The 2060 non Super will also offer significant performance over your 970.

They are both great cards, both are a big upgrade and both will handle new titles in 1080p, even at 144hz.

gtx 1660 super < gtx 1660 ti < rtx 2060 < gtx 1080 < 2060 super < 2070 < 2070 super < gtx 1080 ti < rtx 2080
Weaker to stronger. 2070 super is almost same as 1080 ti. But from rtx 2070 super on, things become really more pricy, for 2080 and better I guess you will run out of patience and cash. And your current resolution is just 1080p

Probably rtx 2070 is your peak and the way to go.

Solution
Yes, 2060 may be enough here. It fully covers 1080p max settings in games, and if u take a 1440p monitor, or a higher refresh rate-one at sometime, it still will do good job. The extra dollars for better cards are maybe not necessary at this moment.
If saving bucks, would better not go something above 2070. It seems a little useless, unless you take 1440p/4k, or a 240+ Hz-display.
