So the question is pretty straight forward. I've been thinking upgrading my CPU for a while but I'm unsure about whether it would be better to keep an Intel chip or switch to Ryzen, although I know it would mean a possible new build as my components are a bit basic. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
My current PC spec are:
CPU: Intel Core i5-8400
Mobo: Gigabyte H310M A
RAM: Patriot DDR4 8gb ( 4gb x2) 2400 MHz
PSU: Corsair CX 550W 80+
GPU: EVGA Geforce GTX 1070

Solution
I have been thinking about just getting a new CPU but it would also make sense to get bigger motherboard with more fan plug ins as I can only currently run 2 on the one I have.

You can use a fan controller hub to expand how many fans you run.

CPU support list for the motherboard is here https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/H310M-A-rev-10/support#support-cpu

i5-8500 is not that bad of a CPU, 6 core, decent speeds, what issues are you having with it? Or just want to spend some money on the system?
The highest performing option for that should be the 9900/K with a BIOS update. In spite of that not being a specifically robust board for power delivery it should socket in and work. The 9900K series went for a VERY low price at MicroCenter while they cleared them out, but pricing has rebound to a degree that you likely could find a 10th/11th gen option cheaper including a (more robust) motherboard.

I've been noticing slower speeds recently. I've had it since mid 2018 and I've also been looking for a more robust motherboard as well so I decided to knock out the CPU as well.
