I saw somewhere that there is an upgrade for $39.99 but does anyone know for certain that it will work with the release preview? I ask because when you go to the microsoft website to purchase the upgrade it states "for previoius versions of windows only" and then directs you to another section that has an upgrade for $69.99

does anyone know the difference and if the $39.99 copy would work?

Hi,

When you choose $39 upgrade, Microsoft provides you an .ISO image of Windows 8 pro for download. While upgrading for $69, Microsoft sends you a physical DVD at the address you provided. Before upgrading from Windows RP to Windows 8 PRO, you must also consider the things given below.

As per the declaration made by Microsoft, you can upgrade Windows 8 RP to Windows 8 PRO only in that case if you have installed Windows 8 RP on top of a genuine copy of any earlier version of Windows operating system such as Windows XP, Vista, or 7. If you have installed Windows 8 RP as the first operating system on a new build PC, you are not eligible to upgrade your Windows 8 RP to Windows 8 PRO.

One thing that you should keep in mind while upgrading to Windows 8 PRO is that you can keep only your personal files that are stored in the Users folder that resides in C:\ drive. You need to reinstall all your applications and programs after the Windows RP is successfully upgraded to Windows 8 PRO.

Hope this helps.
