I want to know what i need to change in terms of hardware and software to make my pc compatible with windows 8. I really need help. This is not for gaming, but more for work so i want to try to spend not too much money.
Before you begin. To upgrade to Windows 8.1 from Windows Vista or Windows XP, you'll need to install it from a Windows 8.1 DVD and perform a clean installation.
I am going to go out on a limb and guess that your system is rather old and will not readily support Win 8.1, in this case here is a low budget machine that would be able to run a 32bit version of Win 8.1
I would definitely suggest building a new computer....almost everything on there is going to run painfully slow....you can build a machine for $400-$500

would be able to recommend a setup within that price range.
You might be able to reuse your case - but you need to update the power supply - it would be better to put it in a new case to give it more breathing room (you will only save about $35).
Your monitor, keyboard & mouse should be able to be re-used.
