I was wanted to upgrade my cpu to a Ryzen 1800x but my current system is running an i5-3570k at DDR3. I was wondering what other components of my rig would I have to upgrade, since I know that some stuff won't be compatible with the new DDR4 CPU.

If your wanting to upgrade your CPU to a Ryzen 1800X and your RAM to DDR4, you are going to have to buy a whole new motherboard with the X370 chipset. I use the MSI X370 Gaming Pro Carbon Motherboard for my Ryzen 1700X, and I've been loving it. No problems whatsoever.

What are the other specs of your PC? GPU? PSU? CPU Cooler? When I have that information, I can answer for question to a better detail.

These are my specs:
Core i5 3570k @ 3.4ghz (overclocked to 4.4) Processor
H100 Corsair closed loop liquid cooler CPU Cooler
Z77 extreme 4 Motherboard
GTX Strix 970 Graphics Card
16gb Ram
2 - 512gb SSD's Memory
Core V31 Thermaltake Case
Windows 10 - 64 bit Operating System
So basically the only things I have to make sure are DDR4 compatible are the CPU, Motherboard, and RAM?

Alright, here is a quick PC Part list I whipped up for you:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 2600X 3.6GHz 6-Core Processor ($209.99 @ Amazon)

Now if you already have storage and a power supply, then you can remove them from the list.
You will need a new CPU cooler to fit the AM4 mounting kit.
But other than that, I believe this is what would be best for you in terms of upgrading your gaming rig.

I can reuse my SSD's correct? and additionally buy the 1tb hard drive.
Also thank you so much for your help!!

Yes. You can reuse your SSDs.

No worries at all mate! Happy to help you out! :)

Have a good day.

A few extra questions and points:
Why the move to Ryzen?
If you're mainly gaming, what are the monitor/s details? For high refresh HD gaming Intel is a better choice, once over HD resolution the gap narrows to a few FPS and at 4K there's no meaningful difference between Intel and AMD.
If you do a fair bit of work with Adobe Photoshop/Premier or Sony Vegas these suites respond better to the higher clockspeeds and better IPC ( efficiency )
of an Intel CPU.

That's if the CPU cooler even has an AM4 bracket.

And he wants to upgrade his gaming rig to get more out of gaming, so obviously he needs a better GPU.

Corsair sells the AM4 bracket for the h100 for $5, I linked to it in my post above.

Lol, i literally just said you need an am4 bracket for the cooler. Plus he said he only wants to upgrade the rig to ryzen, not that he wants to upgrade the gpu.

I use an AsusVG248 144hz @1080p I just wanted to try ryzen since I have always used intel CPUs. Are ryzen CPUs bad, or inferior to intel still?

For gaming, intel cpu's can still be looked at as better, however not by much. With ryzen you get many more cores and threads, making the cpu's better for productivity and video editing. I'd recommend getting a 2700x rather than an 1800x, as the 2700x is slightly better for around the same price. The 2700x can be compared to an 8700k for a lower price. The 2700x also comes with a better stock cooler, which if you don't plan on using can be sold for about 50 bucks. If you are going to upgrade to ryzen, definitely go with the 2700x over the 1800x.

@ Spectrummyt: Yep, Intel have a lead at 1080/144Hz but it's not too great although it does vary according to game. Realistically, you'd only spot the difference with something like Afterburner displaying the actual frame rate ingame.
Agree about the 2700X, it's a better CPU than the 1800X and comes with a very good boxed cooler, something the 1800X and all unlocked 'K' series Intel CPUs lack. Of course you already have the H100 and could easily order a replacement AM4 bracket for it... 😉
One point still bothers me; Why the upgrade? The current CPU/MB/RAM isn't too bad TBH, if you're having low frame rates in games your money would be better spend on a GTX1070/1070Ti, it'll give a far larger boost to gaming performance than any CPU/MB/RAM upgrade will.
