Upgrading GPU and PSU, does this rig fit?

Hey guys, Harv here,

I'm upgrading my mid-high range budget gaming PC in order to run games better for recording. ( http://www.youtube.com/HOCgaming - in case you're interested). Current specs:

AMD FX 6100 6-core CPU - OverDrive to 3.6GHz
AMD Radeon HD 7770 GPU
8GB 1600MHz RAM
ASUS M5A78L-M Motherboard
128GB SanDisk SSD
2TB & 1TB HDDs
750W Power Supply

The Power Supply is some no-name small company, and I realise it's a good idea to go for a well-reputed brand. However, I need to upgrade the PSU anyway because it has insufficient pin-output for the graphics card I intend to buy - AMD R9 290 (has a single 6 + 2 pin output [that I can find] and the 290 requires one 6 pin and one 8 pin).

I know, I know: the 290 is hot and noisy. Which is why I'm getting a non-reference XFX Edition of it in order to improve matters somewhat. The card is good value for money and I'm confident in my choice, unless it turns out to be incompatible with the rest of my hardware. Which is why I'm here; to find out. So, intended specs after upgrade:

AMD FX 6100 6-core CPU - OverDrive to 3.6GHz
XFX Radeon R9 290 Boost Edition GPU
8GB 1600MHz RAM
ASUS M5A78L-M Motherboard
128GB SanDisk SSD
2TB & 1TB HDDs
XFX P1-650S-NLB9 650W PSU

Any advice? Will the CPU throttle the GPU? Is the PSU sufficient? Do I need more RAM? I'm open to suggestions, but after spending +£400 on these two upgrades I'd rather not spend any more. http://bit.ly/19KMNOl

If you have any free sata or ide power plugs, you can buy an adapter to get the extra 6 pin for your video card.

Actually, there's a real good chance that the video card will come with that said adapter.

At the bottom it shows the box contents does come with adapters. I can't imagine the 290 not coming with them, every card I've ever bought has had them.

I'd suggest not buying the PSU until you have the card and try that, you might save some cash

Definitely buy a new PSU if you are getting the R9 290!

No name PSU's like yours can burn out and take your other system components with them. This isn't a joke.

I've used no name PSUs for years and never had an issue, but peace of mind is a powerful thing. It's worth upgrading the PSU if the budget is there, I was just pointing out that it may not be necessary.

R9 290X is hot and noisy, but the R9 290 without "X" is okay. It's a serious card and you better buy a new PSU for it. That one you picked looks good on paper. Btw 290 seems to me like an overikill for FX6100, keep that in mind.

Yes, it's the 290 that I'm going for - not the 290X.

Btw 290 seems to me like an overikill for FX6100, keep that in mind.

Provided the FX6100 doesn't limit the GPU, I'm not bothered by the quality difference. The processing power I get currently is sufficient, and I'll probably upgrade later in the year.

In CPU bound games FX6100 would limit your R9 290 for sure (I think it would be smth like 10-30% worse vs i5). But you still would be able to get comfort fps for gaming, this CPU is ok, but keep in mind future update of it. Best regards
