I have a Asus A53E/K53E Intel Pentium B960 2.20(2 cpus) socket g2 and I want to upgrade it to either a i3 or i5. I wanted to know, is it possible to upgrade to i5 or i3?

Solution
Laptop CPU's can generally be upgraded as long as it is not a bga socket, and there were other CPU options for your series of laptop.

The mobile i5 is the same TDP as the Pentium.

Any of these processor should work, as they were options for your particular laptop.

Intel® Core™ i7 2670QM/2630QM Processor
Intel® Core™ i5 2450M/2430M/2410M Processor
Intel® Core™ i3 2350M/2330M/2310M Processor
Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core B960/B950/B940 Processor
Intel® Celeron® Dual-Core B800/B815 Processor
Socket G2 is compatible with the following mobile processors:

1. Core i3 2xxx
2. Core i5 2xxx
3. Core i7 2xxx and 3xxx

An "M" at the end of the processor model number denotes it as being a mobile processor, so make sure you look out for that.

The bigger problem you have is that laptop CPUs aren't really upgradeable. An i5 draws considerably more power than a Pentium and this can have a detrimental effect on the other components. You also need to consider cooling; an i5 will generate more heat but your laptop hasn't been built with that in mind.

You could probably get away with an i3 but anything beyond that will be pushing your luck. Laptop upgrading requires very careful consideration.

I know this is an old topic. though i wanted to say that i really get goosebumps when people tell that laptop cpu`s arent made to upgrade. thats not true there are a bunch of laptops you can upgrade the cpu from. I really like to know where you get your information from. as long as the max TDP is the same, the cpu socket is compatible and the chipset supports it there`s no questioning about it. unless intel writes random shit on there site.
