Upgrading laptop cpu

Hello all,

I'm looking to upgrade my laptop cpu to something a little beefier and newer than the current one I have (pentium b980). I'm looking for something in the core i3-i5 range that will work in place of my current cpu. I know that in order to have an optimal replacement I need a processor with the same thermal design. Do you think something like this is feasible? Also I'd like to know if graphics processing is only handled by the cpu in this case and if that would allow me to switch cpu generations (sandy bridge to ivy bridge).

Before you go tell me off for even thinking about this I know this is possible especially with my cpu socket type.

@pyr0_m4n would this be negated by sticking to a cpu in the same 35w range?

@Alpha3031 woah, I'm thinking that the cpu's listed would work especially since it has the same thermal design with a higher max operating temperature. I'm still wondering if having an ivy bridge cpu will have any compatibility issues especially in the case of a laptop (I know this definitely works in desktops). Also since the graphics are handled by the motherboard does a better processor provide any benifit in this area?

that really depend how good your motherboard GPU is. If it's better then your new processor's iGPU then you probably won't see a performance increase (but maybe slight power efficiency increase), if it's less powerful then your computer will use the iGPU
