So the most simple step was buying 16gb of RAM to replace the 8gb stocked with the PC. However, Looking to upgrade the PSU but I'm not too sure what will and won't fit in my tower and looking for something between 450 W and 500 W (if possible), and upgrading the processor to a newer generation AMD (or Intel but prefer AMD) and just looking for suggestions, as this would be my first time upgrading myself. Not going to do something I am not comfortable with, risking bricking my rig or damaging the units themselves so just looking for recommended products at them moment and will have a friend help me install the hardware.

Solution
Well, I wanted to put as new GPU in it and I just realized I can't put a AMD in there like I was thinking. So I have to go with I7. So I guess just a new GPU but everything else I can't really manipulate.

That's the one thing you did not say in your post, that you wanted to replace the video card. You don't need an i7 either, the i5 you have is a good speed CPU. You can look at upgrading that if your games have issues playing.

What video card did you want to upgrade to? You would need to swap the 300 watt PSU in it for something more powerful for many cards faster the stock 1060 card. At least the motherboard PSU connectors are standard so any PSU that will fit in your case will be OK to use.
What is the CPU in your system now? Why are you changing the power supply?
According to the system specs it has an Intel 7th gen i5 CPU, so a swap to AMD (for whatever reason you are thinking of) would mean also replacing the motherboard. Why are you trying to upgrade the system? A new power supply won't do anything for it and the i5 CPU in it now is just fine to use going by the other specs in the system from HP site.
